Have the visible signs of aging have got you down? Perhaps you feel young and vibrant inside, but the mirror tells a different story? If so, you’re not alone. Aging is unavoidable. But never fear – fortunately, there are budget-friendly, effective treatments available to minimize the ravages of time. And Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is one such breakthrough treatment.
The IPL Photo Facial minimizes environmental damage and the effects of aging. So, if you’d like to restore your skin’s youth and vitality, here’s everything you need to know about the IPL Photofacial.
What’s the IPL Photofacial?
Intense Pulsed Light therapy uses light energy to target and correct various bothersome skin conditions. The light energy heats up and reaches the deeper underlying layers of your skin without affecting the outer surface layers.
The device uses multiple wavelengths of high-intensity pulsed light to make its way to the deeper skin layers (dermis) and destroy the melanin and broken capillaries that form pigmentation spots and rosacea. Additionally, when the light reaches the dermis, it kills the underlying bacteria that causes acne. IPL treatments also stimulate your collagen and elastin production, helping to tighten and firm your skin and decrease fine lines and wrinkles’ appearance. You’ll also get the following benefits:
- Even skin texture
- Pigmentation spot removal
- Reduces fine lines and wrinkles
- Eliminates broken capillaries and rosacea
- Rejuvenates your skin
- Stimulates new collagen and elastin production
Is IPL Treatment Right for Me?
IPL photo facial treatments are a terrific option for most skin types.
Before Your IPL Photo Facial
Before you have an IPL Photo Facial treatment, you’ll want to prepare for your appointment. Here are pre-treatment steps to help you get optimal results:
- Try to avoid direct sun exposure and tanning for at least two weeks before your treatment.
- Talk with your doctor about phasing out Accutane or other prescription acne medications at least 12-months before your treatment.
- Discontinue Retinol or Retin-A on your treatment areas at least two weeks before your treatment, as it causes your skin to be light-sensitive.
What Should I Expect During My Treatment?
Before your procedure, your practitioner will clean your skin and cover and your eyes with laser shield goggles. Then, she’ll apply a layer of cold, soothing gel to your treatment areas. Once the treatment begins, you’ll see a bright flashing light and feel a small amount of heat and a pulsating sensation on your treatment area. The therapy typically takes 20-60 minutes, depending on your treatment area size. You should feel comfortable and easily tolerate the session.
After Your IPL Photo Facial
Immediately after your treatment, expect your pigmentation spots to look slightly darker. Your skin may look slightly pink, and your broken capillaries will look smaller but most darker or bruised immediately after.
Downtime
You’ll have no downtime with the IPL treatment. You can resume your usual daily activities the day after your procedure, but your skin may be pink and have swelling or flaking.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
If you want to remove pigmentation spots, it typically takes between two to four sessions. If you have redness (including broken capillaries and rosacea), you’ll likely need four initial treatments and two to three maintenance treatments per year.
