PRF Injections Improve the Hollows Under Your Eyes
The first place most people see early aging signs is under their eyes. The area is called your “tear trough,” and multiple factors cause these hollows under your eyes. The big culprits are skin damage, bone structure changes, and fat loss in the fat pads under your eyes.
The skin on your tear troughs is fragile, so you need an experienced provider if you want to fill in the area. At Allurant Aesthetics, we improve the skin under your eyes by injecting platelet-rich fibrin, or PRF, and following that with a hyaluronic acid-based filler if needed.
What’s PRF, and How Does it Work?
Platelet-rich fibrin, or PRF, is becoming increasingly popular within aesthetic medicine. PRF injections for tear troughs require using platelets from your blood. The platelets are encompassed of white blood cells, fibrin, and a minimal amount of stem cells which promote collagen production. This procedure starts with drawing your blood. The blood is placed in a centrifuge device which separates the PRF from the red blood cells. Platelet-rich fibrin is much more beneficial than the more well-known alternative, platelet-rich plasma, or PRP. PRF includes more platelets and also fibrin and a small number of stem cells. New skin cells, collagen, and blood vessels are produced when the platelets attach to the fibrin network. These growth factors are released more slowly in PRF than in PRP. In doing so, PRF provides a longer-lasting result.
The Difference Between PRF and PRP
PRF is acquired through centrifuging your blood without using an anticoagulant to thin the blood. The result – a higher concentration of platelets. PRF contains white blood cells and a small number of stem cells that hold many regenerative properties that are not found in PRP.
PRF Under-Eye Injection Benefits
PRF is the preferred treatment compared to hyaluronic acid filler injections because it is all-natural in that it only uses your stem cells and growth factors found within your blood. In addition to adding volume, PRF also has more benefits than dermal fillers, including pigmentation, skin texture, thickness, and firmness.
Am I a Good Candidate for PRF Under-Eye Injections?
If you want to eliminate under-eye dark circles or lines, thicken under-eye skin, or a more natural and refreshed look, PRF injections would be a beneficial treatment for you. This procedure can also work in conjunction with other treatments such as dermal fillers or botox to enhance results.
What Should I Expect During My Treatment?
Before your PRF injection treatment, you will have had a consultation with one of our aesthetic experts, who will determine if you’re an excellent candidate to undergo this procedure. They will assess your medical history and aesthetic concerns, and goals.
During the Treatment:
You should stay hydrated before and during the treatment to get an ideal blood draw. Your doctor will draw 13mL’s of blood using a small needle. The blood is then placed inside a centrifuge which will separate the PRF from the red blood cells. There is a minimal amount of time between when the PRF is produced in the centrifuge and when the PRF is no longer safe to use as it becomes a thick gel substance that is difficult to inject. A topical numbing cream is applied to the injection area to improve comfort. It then takes only a few minutes for the provider to precisely inject the PRF where it is needed and will be the most beneficial.
After Treatment:
The most common issues post-injection include swelling and bruising, which will subside within five days. The results of this treatment continue to improve over three months as the collagen builds under the skin in the tear trough area.
What Results Can I Expect?
One of our expert aesthetic injectors will perform your treatment, ensuring that you receive the most satisfying results. Over the few months following the PRF injections, new skin cells, collagen, and blood vessels will form to create an enhanced, more youthful appearance.
How Long Does the Procedure Take?
With preparation time, the entire appointment will take approximately one hour. But the injections themselves only take a few minutes.
Are Multiple Treatments Necessary?
A series of at least three PRF injection treatments are recommended to achieve optimal results. These sessions should be performed two to three months apart. Yearly maintenance injections are recommended following the three initial sessions to maintain results.
What are the Potential Complications Associated with PRF Injections?
As with any injection procedure, there is a risk of pain, bruising, swelling, and redness due to the needle. Adhering to the aftercare instructions associated with PRF injections will help to reduce the risk of the above complications. The aesthetic injectors at Allurant prefer to use the cannula technique when injecting the under-eye area. Pain, bruising, and swelling will be significantly minimized when using a blunt-tipped needle.
Why Should I Choose PRF Injections?
PRF injections have proven to be safe and effective in treating numerous aesthetic concerns. If you want to eliminate under-eye hollows, lines, or fragile skin, PRF injections would be ideal for you.
Can I get PRF Injections in Conjunction with other Aesthetic Treatments?
Yes, you can! PRF under-eye injections can be combined with other treatments such as neurotoxins and dermal fillers. These can all be performed during the same appointment.
How much does the PRF Under-Eye Injection Treatment Cost?
Multiple factors are taken into account when determining the cost of the PRF injection treatment, including the number of sessions needed to reach your aesthetic goals. Your doctor will discuss all these details during your consultation.
