Laser hair removal is a noninvasive technique that uses highly concentrated light to penetrate hair follicles and inhibit future hair growth.
Laser hair removal usually requires two to six treatments. The interval between treatments will vary depending on the location. On areas where hair grows quickly, such as the upper lip, the treatment might be repeated in four to eight weeks. On areas of slow hair growth, such as the back, the treatment might be every 12 to 16 weeks.
Upper legs: This is removal of all hair in the upper leg area.
Laser Hair Removal – Hair Removal Procedure
How Much Time is Each Treatment Session?
The amount of treatment time is dependent on the size of the treatment area. Treatment time ranges from 15 minutes to one hour.
What Should I Expect During the Treatment?
You may feel some discomfort during the treatment. The laser will feel like a hot rubber band quickly snapping against your skin, but a cooling system is used to decrease the hot sensation on contact.
What Should I Expect After Treatment?
After undergoing a session of laser hair removal, your skin may feel as if it has a light sunburn in the treated area for a couple of days. You will notice hair follicles begin to fall out of the skin’s surface in the following days. It is normal for your skin to itch or develop a rash that will go away in a couple of days. Hair removal with IPL may also result in dry and slightly itchy skin. Moisturize and use cold compresses if needed.
How Long Do the Results Last?
After the initial four to six treatment sessions, the length of your results is dependent on how quickly your hair grows. Some patients notice long-lasting results while others may need maintenance treatments a few times each year.
How Much Downtime is Needed?
No downtime is associated with laser or IPL hair removal. You can resume normal daily activity immediately following the treatment.
Do I Need to Follow an Aftercare Regimen?
It is important to gently clean the treatment region each day. Do not participate in excessive tanning for two weeks following the treatment and apply sunscreen before being exposed to the sun. Avoid saunas, hot showers, and massages for at least two days post-treatment.
