Vampire Facial ® PRP Facial Rejuvenation Therapy
You might have seen the photos of Kim Kardashian West with blood splatter on Instagram and other social media. No, it isn’t Halloween make-up – it’s a Vampire Facial the latest treatment trends in skincare.
Aside from Kim Kardashian-West, other celebrities such as British actor Rupert Everett and model beauty Bar Refaeli and are only a few who have all undergone the ‘Vampire Facial’ also known as the PRP facial treatment.
The Vampire Facial treatment is a combination of a micro-needling, accompanied by the application of platelet-rich plasma (PRP). These platelets come from the patient’s own blood serum and are rich in growth factors. When these growth factors are applied deep into the skin, they will stimulate stem cells to rejuvenate the epidermis (skin cells).
The growth factors essentially help boost our production of collagen and elastin, while also bringing hydrating and antioxidant properties to the skin. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is currently being used topically as part of a regular facial, along with micro-needling that enhances its penetration into the skin. It is also being injected into the skin in the same way as dermal fillers.
What is the Vampire Facial process?
Before anything, photographs are taken to document progress and results. We start by apply numbing cream on your face and wait for 20–45 minutes before you can receive micro-needling. We then start the treatment with a blood draw of about 11ml from you. The collected blood is then run through a centrifuge to isolate Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) from red blood cells. Your PRP will then be slathered across your face, while receiving micro-needling.
How long does Vampire Facial the procedure take to perform?
The entire Vampire Facial procedure takes about an hour and a half. You should not wash the PRP off your face for at least 4 hours, preferably 24 hours. This allows the PRP to continue being absorbed by the skin.
How Long Does is the downtime?
There can be one day of downtime before you are ready to get out depending on the depth of micro-needling that was needed for your skin. You will come out of the treatment a bit red, just like a sunburn. Post-procedure, sunblock is strongly recommended. Applying make-up is certainly discouraged for the first 24 hours.
What are the risks or Side effects of the Vampire Facial®?
While no serious side effects have ever been reported with the Vampire Facial treatment, some common reactions include temporary swelling, mild irritation, bruising, itching, redness or tenderness at the injection site.
What results can you expect from the Vampire Facial ®?
After the age of 25, the human body stops producing collagen. Vampire Facial ® treatment is primarily used to stimulate collagen formation, therefore, improving skin elasticity, texture, and fine wrinkles. The PRP in the Vampire Facial treatment increases new blood vessel formation to the skin which helps improve the evenness of the skin tone reducing blemishes, pore size, age spots, and hyper-pigmentation. Vampire facial can be a great treatment for surgical scars and acne since it breaks up scar tissue bands and stimulates deeper healing. In the cases of deep scarring or marked discoloration, the PRP can be directly injected into the problematic areas.
Is the Vampire Facial® treatment right for you?
Probably yes. Anyone who would like to have a fresher appearance and even tone to their skin is a perfect candidate for Vampire Facial® treatment. This procedure is especially helpful for those who have premature lines and wrinkles, or high degrees of solar damage. However, for people who have a history of blood diseases, including bleeding or clotting disorders, Vampire Facial® treatment is not recommended.
